The counterweight problem
A conventional excavator's counterweight swings in a radius wider than the tracks. In tight streets, that rear swing means swinging into scaffolding, walls or passing traffic.
Zero tail swing (ZTS) tucks the counterweight and cab within the track width. You can rotate 360° inside a corridor barely wider than the machine.
Where ZTS pays for itself
Sidewalk utility cuts, indoor demolition, landscape beds beside finished walls, rail and port work — anywhere the space between obstacles is the constraint, ZTS is the difference between doing the job and not.
Smaller machines in the 0.8–3.5 t range offer ZTS with minimal trade-offs in stability, because their counterweights are modest to begin with.
The trade-offs to know
A zero-tail machine positions the engine and hydraulic components differently, which can slightly raise service complexity. Ask your dealer for the service-access plan before you commit.
For open-field work the tail swing rarely matters. That's why we offer conventional and ZTS layouts across the mini range.
